Chiropratic Care

What is Chiropractic care?

Chiropractic care is a hands-on approach to manipulate the structures that support the spine to promote the body’s own ability to heal itself. Many patients opt for chiropractic care as a first line of treatment or a complimentary option after a traumatic injury such as a fall, motor vehicle accident (MVA) or work-related injuries (Lack of back support while sitting etc.).

Chiropractic care can be used in conjunction with other treatments such as physical rehabilitation, massage therapy, and medication management. Many people with chronic conditions find that they are able to rely less heavily on prescription pain medications when their pain is being managed with the help of chiropractic care.

How are chiropractic treatments performed?

Your chiropractor will start with a physical examination and ask questions about your medical history that will include what your pain levels are, triggers that cause pain, and any traumatic events, like a workplace injury or a motor vehicle accident to identify the root cause and treatment plan for your pain. Your chiropractor may also order X-rays and other diagnostic tests to determine the best treatment plan for you.

Treatment most often involves manual adjustments which involves your chiropractor pressing on the spine in specific areas to align the vertebrae or a technique which utilizes a twisting motion used to push the vertebrae back into proper alignment. Adjustments can also be performed on other joints as needed to provide pain relief.

Many people experience pain relief immediately after a chiropractic adjustment. Others may need several adjustments, sometimes paired with other treatments, before they start to experience relief of their symptoms. While most people do not experience any side effects, some may experience temporary headaches, feelings of tiredness, or discomfort in the body part that was adjusted.
