Back & Spine

Back pain is a common complaint from adults. Back pain comes from a myriad of conditions. Back pain may come from bad habits such as bad posture or obesity or a side effect of aging. Some patients suffer from back pain as a result of an injury or trauma.

The treatment for back pain depends on each patient and the condition. We evaluate each patient thoroughly to identify the source of the pain and develop a treatment plan according to your condition. Clearway Pain Solutions treatment plans often involve a combination of minimally invasive treatments and physical therapy to provide pain relief.

In 2019, 39% of adults had back pain, 36.5% had lower limb pain, and 30.7% had upper limb pain within a 3 month span.

Common Symptoms of Back Pain

  • Chronic ache or stiffness along the spine from the neck to hips
  • Piercing pain – usually experienced after overexertion. This pain is localized in the neck, upper back or lower back
  • Persistent ache in mid to lower back, especially after prolonged sitting or standing
  • Radiating pain in lower back or buttocks, down into thighs, calves, and feet
  • Muscle spasms in lower back when standing straight

Types of Back Pain

There are 3 main types of back pain: upper and middle back, lower back, and pain in the spine.

  • Upper and middle back: These parts of the back are called the thoracic spine. Although upper and middle back pain isn’t as common as lower back pain, it can still be debilitating. Most upper/middle back pain results from muscle strain or injury, poor posture or conditions like a herniated disc.
  • Pain in the spine: This pain refers to pain in a widespread area. Pain in the spine may be isolated to one region or in several, even all, regions: cervical (neck), thoracic (middle), lumbar (lower) and sacral (hip/pelvis).
  • Lower back: Lower back pain is very common and also difficult to diagnose and treat. Besides injury and trauma, some conditions causing lower back pain are spinal stenosis, osteoarthritis, and more. Rare causes of lower back pain may be from bacterial infections or tumors.
