Kyphoplasty, also called balloon vertebroplasty, is a minimally invasive treatment option for addressing a vertebral compression fracture, minimizing the common risks associated with a surgical procedure. Clearway offers this treatment option which can offer significant, immediate pain relief for many patients.
**Only available in Maryland and Delaware
The procedure is performed using anesthesia on an outpatient basis. Using a Fluoroscope for guided imaging, your physician will insert a needle under the skin in the affected area and into the vertebral fracture. A small balloon device inserted through the needle is used to expand the fractured vertebrae and create a space for the insertion of special bone cement. This material will stabilize the damaged bone and provide improved posture, mobility and overall comfort once healed. Your treatment should last about one to two hours depending on the number of vertebrae that are being treated.
Clearway evaluates all patients experiencing back pain to diagnose the root cause and provide the most effective treatment. While most patients in good overall health are considered candidates for kyphoplasty, we will discuss any concerns you may have and take into consideration factors that could affect your recovery.
